The Volkswagen Touareg is a crossover SUV in midsize division. In 2002, it was manufactured by German automaker Volkswagen.

Overview

The Volkswagen Touareg is designed with a standard four-wheel drive system. It is incorporated with a “low range” setting that can be triggered with in-cabin regulates. The options that made this car much more efficient on off-road terrain, are air suspension system that can elevate the vehicle’s drive height on demand, and a cabin button permitting the back differential to be physically locked.

2002 Volkswagen TouaregThe car has a 5.0L single overhead camshaft (SOHC) 20-valve V10 Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engine, which helps the Touareg in touching the 62.1 mph mark in 7.8 seconds. It is also included by a 6.0 liter double overhead camshaft (DOHC) 48-valve W12 engine edition, which was originally designed to be a limited-version model.

2007 Facelift

In 2006, the Touareg was revealed at the Paris Motor Show and introduced as a 2008 model in North America. The updated version of Touareg contains more than 2300 modified parts and possesses some technological enhancements too; they are:

  • An adaptive cruise control system
  • A blind-spot warning system

It is V6 TDI edition, which comes along with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, substituting V10 TDI in Canada and US markets. The Touareg comprises of a 4.5 US gallon tank, and an AdBlue solution. The Touareg is however not available with NOX storage catalyst that is available on Jetta Clean Diesel TDI, because of its additional weight.

This hybrid car comes with a V6 petrol engine, which measures about 2,995 cubic centimeters along with a ‘Twin Vortices Series’ (TVS) supercharger that can evolve 440 Newton meters (320 ft-lbf ) of torque at 3000rpm and 333 metric horsepower (245 kW; 328 bhp) of power at 5500rpm. It is using an electric motor that evolves 300 newton metres (220 ft-lbf) of torque and 52 metric horsepower (38 kW; 51 bhp) mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Second Generation (2010-Present)

The second generation Volkswagen Touareg has been released off-late in 2010. The newly added features in this generation include world first headlight technology; the glare-free high beam and Dynamic Light Assist.
